I had an epiphany this past weekend. I was sitting down with my partner and we were talking/arguing about the things we still needed to get done before Christmas. It’s a discussion that friends, couples, families all have at this time of year and the most common factor is this - there’s never enough time!
That wasn't the epiphany. So many of us know how precious time is and I imagine most of you reading this have a voice in your mind that is reminding you of all the things you could/should be doing right now.
The epiphany was more about doing something about it. As we approach the time for New Year’s Resolutions, I’m making mine right now and sharing it with you all. 2016 is going to be the year that I get back time!
"Great - good thinking!” you might be saying; quickly followed by “But how are you going to do that Doc Brown/Dr Who/insert your preferred time traveller reference?”
And it’s a fair question. But the more I thought about this the more I realised that it had to be different to previous ones. It was too important. Not just having more time, but what I could do with that time. Just spend 30 seconds now thinking about what you would do with an extra 5 hours per month. And think about what a difference the outcomes of those 5 hours would mean to you.
From a business point of view - maybe those 5 hours are time you would love to spend on going back to former clients. Imagine that - 5 hours of speaking to people every month who you like and who like you? What could come of those chats? If just one of them per month said that they’d like to speak with you about another piece of work, that’s 12 pieces of new work in 2016 that you weren't expecting.
Perhaps those 5 hours are the time you wish you had to be able to dedicate to getting a new website launched. For something that is so critical to a company’s marketing, so many of us would agree that it gets a sad amount of attention.
Me personally - I would love to have that time to work on some side projects. Things I’m passionate about but that always sit on the shelf patiently waiting for me to give them some attention.
Do any of these sound familiar to you? For you it might be heading to the gym more often or spending time teaching your kid to swim. But whatever it is - I imagine it’s something that right now just sits there on your wish list and never gets to the top.
That’s when I started getting really excited. Not only had I started to dream about what great things I could do with just a few extra hours per month, but I knew that I had the means to get that time back.Plutio!
We can’t wait for the impending launch of Plutio for many reasons, but one of them, one of the biggies, is that it’s going to give me the time I need to make my business and my life better in 2016.
There’ll be more to come about the specific features of Plutio and I hope that you get as excited as I do about the possibilities. We’re already focused on streamlining areas such as project management, invoicing and team collaboration but we’d love to hear from you about what we could do to give you those 5 hours back in January 2016.
